Volunteer roles (unpaid)

1. English speaking buddy/volunteers
Are you a native or near-native English speaker? Do you have an hour a week to help a local community member who is learning English, to practice through conversation? We are looking for local English-speaking buddies who will be paired up with an English learner. It is then up to both of you to decide when/where you’d like to meet. Fear not - you don’t need to teach English! Just be willing to speak, listen, be patient and build up the confidence of your partner. This doesn’t need to be every week – just as and when your partner have time!

We are also looking for volunteers who are interested in coming along and assisting with classes and/or local trips with English students. This would be a good opportunity for someone who is interested in becoming an ESOL tutor in the future.

If you’re interested in this role please email hello@wsfroyaldocks.org and we’ll be in touch.

2. Creche volunteer
We are looking for someone to help support the creche during our ESOL classes so that parents and carers of young children can also join in. If you are happy to assist the creche worker with set up, the running of activities and clear up for under 5s then please email hello@wsfroyaldocks.org and we’ll be in touch.

3. Employment buddy
We are looking for local people who would like to volunteer as little or as much of their time, to support local migrants to find work. This could be proof reading CVs and cover letters at our employment workshops, helping someone practice interview techniques or guiding someone through finding work in a particular field. We are also looking for volunteers who are happy to give advice to local people wanting to find work in particular sectors.

If you’re interested in this role please email hello@wsfroyaldocks.org and we’ll be in touch.

4. Supporting local people navigate “life admin”
We will be starting support sessions for all local people in West Silvertown where they can get support with form filling, phone calls and understanding different processes. This will not be an advice session.

We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to 1-2 hours/week (either on a Thursday 12-2pm or Saturday 10am-11:30am).
If you’re interested in this role please email hello@wsfroyaldocks.org and we’ll be in touch.
