We currently have 2 volunteer roles:
Food Pantry volunteer role
We are looking for new volunteers to help in our food pantry on Thursdays 11:30am – 4:30pm.
Minimum commitment: 3 months (please only apply if you can volunteer weekly for 3 months)
This voluntary role will involve:
- Restocking shelves
- Unloading deliveries
- Cleaning
- Following health and safety procedures
- Helping members with their shopping
- Welcoming members when they arrive into pantry
- Attending and contributing to team meetings
- Working as a team to deliver a safe and friendly pantry experience
In return you will receive:
- A reference if you volunteer for 3 months
- Level 2 Food Hygiene and safety course
Tempo time credits every time you volunteer (these are tokens which can be spent on different things in London, like the Uber boat) - We are able to offer travel expenses in certain situations

Volunteer adult English teacher
Volunteer training opportunity with West Silvertown Foundation
We are looking for a volunteer to train as an ESOL/TEFL teacher (English as a second language) within West Silvertown Foundation.
Are you:
- Interested in becoming a qualified TEFL teacher?
- Fluent in English?
- Keen to gain hands-on experience of teaching English?
- Keen to use your life experience, for example as a migrant to the UK , to enhance our ESOL project?
- Patient, empathetic and hard-working?
The successful applicant will:
- Complete a 120-hour TEFL training qualification with the TEFL academy (paid for by WSF)
- Assist a teacher within our current Welcome Project whilst completing the training, and will be expected to volunteer with us to teach a class of their own for 6 months once qualified.
You will gain:
- A certificate in teaching English as a foreign language from the TEFL academy (120 hours)
- Experience of teaching a class for at least 6 months within our dynamic and fun English classes at West Silvertown Foundation
- A reference for English teaching jobs in the future
- Help with CV and cover letter writing

- why you want to become a trained English teacher (TEFL)
- what you will bring to the role.
We welcome applications from people who have migrated to the UK, and to whom English is their second language. The candidate must have right to work in the UK.
We will cover travel expenses of up to £7 per day.
Role description:
- Whilst completing the TEFL qualification assist in our adult English classes
- This will involve:
- working 121 with students who are struggling
- handing out copies
- preparing materials for the class
- checking on students to make sure they understand the activities
- answering any questions the students have and asking the teacher for more complex answers.
The TEFL qualification will involve completing in-depth online training in grammar and teaching methods. It may include a face-to-face training session depending on the course undertaken.
Once qualified, the volunteer will be expected to teach a class of their own. This will involve:
- preparing classes following the lesson structures learnt in the TEFL course
- planning a course curriculum termly
- attending meetings with the wider Welcome Project team
- delivering practical and interactive classes
- treating all students and fellow teachers with patience and respect.
